Our signature V-Rod builds have two things in common – stock rear fenders are always chopped-out and metal parts almost always blacked-out! We never found stock V-Rods good looking, so we got a formula that always makes the V-Rod stand-out. No expensive parts – almost all original. Stock front and rear suspension, wheels, swingarms, etc. It’s enough to put a full body kit and some accessories to have the result like this.
Most of the parts we use on our builds are manufactured by us, so shop this look below without spending tons of money to get the same aggressive look! Almost on all of our builds we use the same handlebar, grips, front fork covers, and lowering kits, as it always works to get that mean look of the V-Rod! Try it for yourself!

Over 30 years ago the Company landed a real hit with the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. The success story that started in 1990 is continuing with the Milwaukee-Eight models. Rick’s Motorcycles has given this Fat Boy a makeover and the result is a custom bike with a line that acknowledges the original gene of the Fat Boy.
With a targeted approach, the line of the bike was newly defined, the most striking of which should be the change at the rear. The original seat, including the fender, were removed. Rick’s is a leading manufacturer of different custom parts for Harley-Davidson models, which include handsome fenders for the Fat Boy. Rick’s fenders are also available as a Rick’s complete kit. In this case, the matching seat base plate, the tank cover and the necessary mounting material are already included.
In the photos, the rear fender hovers a few millimeters above the tire, but like this, there would not be enough space between the tire and the fender for a comfortable ride. Thanks to a built-in airride system the motorcycle can simply and quickly be pumped up to the desired height or to a lower level by simply pushing a button.
Let’s go from the rear to the front fender. Also here a wheel cover from Rick’s was selected. The front fender is made in Baden-Baden in two lengths, and both the contours fit the tire radii perfectly. Rick’s has also always been making design wheels for the various Harley-Davidson models, which, of course, also suit the Fat Boy. However, the stock designs are absolutely acceptable and besides the conversion costs can be kept low by reusing them. The here used 260 rear tire fits onto the stock rim and into the swingarm without any problems.
Now let’s look at the accessories, of which Rick’s Fat Boy has a lot to offer. From the rear to the front, there is the side license plate holder, the belt cover, Rick’s grips and the adjustable brake and clutch levers. In addition, there is Rick’s handlebar, which is fixed into the in-house made risers.
That leaves the question about the indicators, which are so small, they hardly get noticed. Kellermann makes the ‘Atto’ with a test certificate and therefore all indicators are street legal. At the rear, the 3:1 version with brake and rear light plus indicators was attached directly to the fender struts. At the front, the indicators are hidden below the instrument panel. For this, Rick’s holders are attached to the mirror screw and are only noticeable when they get used.
The first part of the name of Rick’s Fat Boy is due to the blood red color, the meaning of the second part will become clear to the rider during the first test ride!

The Harley-Davidson Fat Bob models are a favourite at Rick’s when it comes to selecting a basis for another customizing project. There is by now a comprehensive parts program that was developed in Baden-Baden for all Softail models which are fired up by Milwaukee-Eight motors. Part of this is, in addition to fender kits, the swingarm kit with which tire widths of up to 300 can be used.
Almost all the parts on this bike have, of course, been made by Rick’s Motorcycles, but nevertheless we would like to mention them. The most striking should be the huge Metzeler rear tire, which, with a dimension of 300/35-18 inches, naturally does not fit into the stock swingarm. In order to make it fit, a somewhat larger trick needs to be performed. For this purpose, Rick’s makes its own swingarm kit, which deserves to be looked at a bit closer.
With Rick’s swingarm, the belt drive is located to the outside, which enables the tire to be placed centrally in the bike. In order to transfer the power from the gearbox exit shaft to the rear wheel, the offset has to be bridged. On Rick’s shaft the power is transmitted via a short belt to an intermediate shaft, positioned to the outside accordingly, and on to another belt which carries it to the rear wheel pulley. The result is amazing and absolutely rideable, and especially because the rear wheel does not need an offset, the bike is very capable in bends.
The rear brake was relocated to the gearbox side, which enables an unobstructed view onto the rear wheel. The wheels on this Fat Boy are also from Rick’s and the design of the 3-part screwed together eye-catchers is called ‘Rival’ and has at the front a dimension of 4,5 x 18 inches, for the rear wheel 10,5 x 18 inches were chosen.
A smallish wheel cover had to be added, and the manufacturer of the fenders should be obvious. The rear fender is available as a kit and includes mounting material, seat base plate and tank cover. Special on this version are the air intakes, which give this version the additional name of “Race”. The front fender is made by Rick’s from the finest steel in two different lengths.
Let’s now look at the accessories on this bike, most of which are made by Rick’s Motorcycles, starting with the air filter with the name “Spoke”. Rick’s has a further seven designs in its program which are available for different models and model years. Handlebar and grips are also Made by Rick’s, as well as the risers into which the handlebar is secured.
If you are searching for the indicators and the rear lights, have a closer look. At the rear, Kellermann Atto 3 in 1 indicators were screwed directly into the fender struts. Indicator, rear and brake light are in a housing with a mere 10 mm diameter. The small lights come with an E-test certificate and can be used legally on the road. The Attos at the front are fixed with Rick’s holders below the dashboard to the mirror screw. A last small detail is the derby cover from Rick’s, which has a transparent Makrolon window that allows a clear view onto the rotating clutch parts.

The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy has always been one of the most popular models in the Company line-up. Rick’s Motorcycles has developed numerous parts with which the bestseller can be turned into an even more desirable custom bike.
The most striking change on this Fat Boy has taken place at the rear. The stock rear fender, including stock seat, was taken off and replaced with a new fender from Rick’s. These fender kits consist of a new fender, a mounting kit, the required seat base plate and a tank cover.
Rick’s fenders are made from solid steel and are to a large part made by hand. Integrated 8 mm strong struts ensure enough stability. For storage of additional electronic parts, a roomy compartment is integrated. Rick’s steel fenders for Fat Boy models from 2018 are available for 240 or 260 tires and 8 or 9-inch wheels. Attachment is possible on the OE locations, which makes mounting simple.
The front fender had to be exchanged as well, and Rick’s also has solutions for this in its program with fenders for almost every Harley-Davidson model. For Milwaukee-Eight Fat Boy models, Rick’s Motorcycles offers two different fenders for the front wheel, one in standard length and an extra short version.
Up to here, we have described the most important changes, but the accessories are also from Rick’s parts program, which make this bike even more valuable, for example the air filter. Rick’s air filters are available in different designs for almost all Harley-Davidson models in combination with the stock exhaust system, Jekill & Hyde or KessTech systems, also with ABE. Rick’s adjustable brake and clutch levers are standard applications, as are Rick’s grips. With in-house made risers, Rick’s handlebar can be optimally positioned. A side license plate holder and the belt cover from Rick’s don’t really need a special mention, but we point them out anyway.
The red edge below the rocker boxes does not indicate comprehensive motor tuning needs. It is only the icing on the cake to further underline the look. With the ‘Sterling’ we have yet further proof that not all possibilities have to be exhausted in order to create a good looking custom bike. As the name indicates, ‘Sterling’ has nevertheless been turned into a very special and classy looking custom bike.

The ‘Harley Family’ has some incredibly iconic looking motorcycles, many of which attract owners to the marque just by looks. But we felt like the tank and tail didn’t represent the HD heritage we had in mind for a fun 500. Enter Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson (GAHD).
Part of the plan was building a custom bike that was easily repeatable, should orders start flying off the floor down at GAHD where this bike is now parked. So hardtail conversions and custom made tanks were out of the question. Plus, even though the Street 500 is a ripper ride you’d be happy to hoon around with on an open licence, we didn’t want to ‘over capitalise’ on a LAMS bike. Mainly to ensure those entering the custom scene can get a rad looking HD to ride without breaking the bank.
The centre point for this Street 500 is now the Sportster Seventy-Two tank, mounted with a bolt on Ellaspede Seventy-Two tank kit. Removing the ‘flat and wide’ stock tank in favour of this one certainly transformed the look of the bike, and once we knew it was possible the design direction was decided on.
The stock seat and rear section on the Street 500’s is big for the size of the bike, so trimming that visual weight out was a key concern. We liked the look of the FXDR rear with it’s short finish seat cowl, but knew it would be far too big for this frame and didn’t quite match the lines of the Seventy- Two tank already in place. Using it as inspiration, a custom made aluminium cowl was created that fit the frame size and flowed on from the back of the tank.
The long seat support on the factory frame was trimmed back and braced before an aftermarket tail light subtly slide in underneath the new seat cowl. New rear indicators now tuck in on Ellaspede Street 500 Rear Indicator Brackets just behind the factory rear shock mounts.
A short rear required a resolution for the number plate mount, which presented an opportunity to design and develop the Ellaspede Street 500 Number Plate mount kit. It fits to the stock swing arm, positioning the plate in a legal position without compromising the shorter custom seat design.
Once the rear was looking trimmed and tidy, attention turned to the factory muffler which now looked even bigger than before. GAHD sourced a sweet Vance and Hines slip on that not only looks the part but gives the 500 mill a more meaningful Harley sound.
With the bike now sounding more like a Harley we wanted to get it riding more like Harley. The factory mid control foot pegs are in a useable position, but we just had to fit forwards for a more genuine HD experience. The available options seemed expensive and didn’t match the look of the bike, so we developed our own and the fully adjustable Ellaspede Street 500 Forward Controls are now fitted to this bike.
The stock bars are comfortable and fit the look of this application, but the factory mirrors were replaced with under slung adjustable items to keep the visual line looking low. Removing the headlight cowl and associated brackets also revealed a tidy headlight unit that sits snug and low in the stock position, well done HD! New indicators on an Ellaspede Street 500 Front Indicator Bracket complete the front end tidy up and trim down.
Rounding out the changes was some electrical work to wire in the new components, while the radiator fill neck was modified to fit with the Seventy-Two tank changeover.
When it came to paint the traditional Harley orange was hard to go past, but we wanted to spice it up with some sparkle. Sometimes black doesn’t highlight shapes the way you want, so a smooth silver was laid down to compliment the enhanced factory orange.
The final result? We’ve combined some current Harley aesthetics in a mid size ‘sportster style’ package. The Harley Davidson Street 500 already does a lot of things right, but now that it looks and rides a little more like the bigger bikes we think it’ll continue to kick goals in the mid sized market.
