Much has changed since the year 2000, when the introduction of the Harley-Davidson V-Rod split the Harley community into two distinct camps: those loyal to air-cooled tradition and those embracing liquid-cooled innovation.

Seventeen years after its debut, the power cruiser had firmly secured its position within Harley-Davidson’s model lineup, eventually earning the appreciation of nearly all brand enthusiasts.

However, tightening emissions regulations and declining demand outside of Germany ultimately brought this era to an end in 2017. Though the V-Rod did not even reach adulthood by conventional standards, its lifespan remains comparatively short within the company’s long history.

Yet this is not intended to be an obituary. Instead, it highlights what Rick’s Motorcycles achieved with the V-Rod platform—and the custom parts that continue to be ordered for the many VRSC machines still cruising roads around the world.

To ride a motorcycle, it must first have wheels—and in wheel design and manufacturing, Rick’s Motorcycles is an undisputed expert. For this build, the team selected “Super Steve” design spoke wheels, featuring black powder-coated rims paired with polished spokes. Rick’s signature brake discs were created to match the wheel design perfectly.

The rear wheel is mounted within a custom-machined swingarm, a special Rick’s Motorcycles component developed and produced in small series. This bike is also equipped with Rick’s drive-side brake system, which relocates the brake disc behind the pulley on the left side of the rear wheel, giving the right side an unobstructed view of the custom wheel.

Chassis & Bodywork by Rick’s

Many of the chassis components—including the front fender, airbox cover, and rear fender—are Rick’s-made parts designed specifically for the V-Rod line.

The front fender is kept short and mounted in the stock position.
Where most motorcycles house a fuel tank, the V-Rod features a mock tank, functioning as the airbox. The actual fuel tank is located under the seat.

Rick’s airbox cover, crafted from reinforced plastic, is a precision-fit replacement. The version shown here, called “Street Fighter,” includes additional side air intakes covered with fine mesh. Special integrated cut-outs position the gauges neatly at the center of the cover.

At the rear, the bike features one of Rick’s complete rear fender kits, supplied with a custom-made seat base plate constructed from high-quality reinforced plastic. These kits remain available today and can be ordered for either 240 mm or 280 mm rear tires.

A Legacy That Lives On

Rick’s Motorcycles continues to see strong demand for its handcrafted VRSC components. And although the V-Rod era has ended—bringing with it a hint of nostalgia—the hope remains that Harley-Davidson will one day introduce a new power cruiser platform, one worthy of receiving equally stunning custom treatment from Rick’s.

The Harley-Davidson V-Rod ‘GEO 280Red‘ by Bad Boy Customs is a bold and aggressive interpretation of the iconic power cruiser.

This custom build blends high-performance components, precision craftsmanship, and a striking color scheme that makes it stand out anywhere it goes. Finished in a sleek matte gray with contrasting red wheels, the GEO 280Red radiates pure muscle and style.

To achieve its wide and powerful stance, Bad Boy Customs equipped the bike with a 10 x 18 rear wheel wrapped in a 280 tire, and a 4.25 x 19-inch front wheel (BBC 071). The look is completed with front and rear rim stripes and a lowered front fork, giving the V-Rod an even more aggressive posture. Wave brake discs (BBC 073 & BBC 074) enhance both performance and aesthetics, while the engine covers, swingarm, and other details are painted in the same body color for a seamless finish.

The custom bodywork includes a rear fender (BBC 090), airbox cover (BBC 024), and a short front fender (BBC 036), all crafted with precision. Other bespoke parts such as closed fork sleeves (BBC 129), rear and front axle covers (BBC 075 & BBC 107), and swingarm covers (BBC 103) ensure every inch of the motorcycle looks refined and cohesive.

Performance and comfort were also top priorities. The 2-in-2 black ceramic-coated exhaust system (BBC 001) not only adds a deep, throaty sound but also a unique visual touch. The custom seat, made from smooth and rough leather with a diamond pattern, provides both elegance and grip.

Completing the setup are a side-mounted license plate holder (BBC 059), Airride suspension (BBC 070), and mini front indicators (BBC 054) with indicator brackets (BBC 057) that keep the design clean and minimalistic.

The front end features a 3D headlight bracket (BBC 138) paired with a main headlight with Angel Eyes (BBC 123) for a futuristic touch. A Dragbar Fatbar handlebar (1 1/4”, BBC 126) and pointed bar ends (BBC 068) complete the cockpit, combining comfort, control, and style.

Every detail on the GEO 280Red speaks of precision and passion. From the stance to the finishing, this V-Rod captures the essence of modern custom culture — where engineering meets artistry.

Backstage Workshop from Bulgaria has taken the legendary Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special and turned it into a true custom masterpiece.

We installed a FOX Arnott adjustable air suspension system, providing both superior comfort and the perfect stance at any speed.

For the controls, we opted for a low, straight handlebar fitted with Avon grips, NLC brake and clutch levers, and under-mounted mirrors with integrated LED front indicators. A powerful LED headlight completes the aggressive front look.

The Akrapovič Open Line exhaust system delivers not only optimal performance but also a deep, resonant sound and distinctive aesthetics. Combined with the K&N open air filter, this setup enhances both breathing and attitude—producing an unmistakable roar.

The fully custom body kit, including a steel rear fender base and a handmade seat base, was crafted and refined by GB Design to match the bike’s bold silhouette and performance-driven identity.

A massive 260 rear tire ensures a muscular presence on the road, while the green color scheme and precision-executed graphics—a mix of matte and gloss clear coats—by Picasso Airbrush & Custom Paint give this build a unique personality and visual punch.
