We review the Triumph Speed Twin 1200cc modern classic Roadster, with the Bonneville engine. This motorcycle is built for cornering; it has a short wheelbase and trail and a steep rake. What is it like to ride? We give you all the info! We look at the handling, speed, comfort, ergonomics, acceleration, brakes, suspension wheels, design, engine, exhaust and more! As with all our reviews, we put ourselves in the shoes of the type of person who would buy this motorbike. Is it right for YOU? Watch to find out. Will it be OK if your’e tall? If you’re short, can you ride it? Is it heavy? Is it too much? We were filming in gale force winds AGAIN so we apologise for the sound quality, although we have filtered most of it out. We also go over some of the stats like fuel economy, range and what it has, such as modes for Road, Rain and Sport.

Japan travel goes on and after a few nights of camping it’s time to settle in the city for a few days. Not any city, the cultural capital of Japan Kyoto which was the capital of the country until the mid 19th century. I’m not much for tourists traps but Japan was too unique to not soak it up a bit. Made some friends and checked out the city recording in full 720potato vision. Kyoto imperial palace (Kyoto Gosho), Fushimi Inari Shrine with all the gates, Arashiyama bamboo forest, Golden temple (Kinkaku Ji) and more. Next city was Hiroshima and the history here is unique being the first city ever to have an atomic bomb dropped in. The Atomic Bomb Dome is still standing from that time. Also take the ferry to the Itsukushima shrine where the deer roam free.

EPISODE 21 – Riding with/on Honda Legends in Nagano Japan

To mix things up a bit while in Japan I reached out online and thanks to a reply from Chris Lockwood I ended up with a Japanese rider who started riding around the world in the mid 90’s, his stickered up motorbike telling the tale. Tsuyoshi Kobayashi is still riding around today, he can’t help it since it’s in his blood. He knew a whole other gang of experienced Honda riders and we toured all around Nagano on twisty motorcycle touring paradise Honshu island. One of the guys, riding the most classic version of the Honda Africa Twin XRV750, was Mr. Yoshio Izumi. He designed the legendary and trusty V-Twin engine that powered various iconic bikes of that era like the Africa Twin and the Transalp. We visited a traditional Japanese onsen, or hotspring. Went to see the Shiga Kogen snow monkeys but without the snow. This is Japan travel, the nature you normally don’t get to see and a one of a kind hospitality.

EPISODE 20 – That Feeling when You Ride into Tokyo

After Fukushima it’s the final dash traveling down south to Tokyo, the mega capital of Japan. First some more twisties on riders motorcycle touring paradise Honshu, but soon the urban sprawl begins. There I settle down for a a week and explore the city, pretty much ticking off some Tokyo travel cliches. The first night riding through the city felt utterly surreal, just to be able to get there from Amsterdam without putting the motorcycle on transport is mad. Tried putting together a Japan vlog with the tidbits I’d recorded but it doesn’t do it justice. Enjoy this short motorcycle travel documentary in Japan put together with the video footage that I recorded back in 2014. When I wasn’t recording for youtube yet on a potato.

EPISODE 19 – Exploring Fukushima Nuclear Powerplant Tsunami Disaster Zone in Japan

First things first when arriving on Honshu is repairing the carburator which had been holding us back for weeks now. Zig zag down the island from coast to coast and find out that this Japanese island is a motorcycle touring paradise. With old narrow twisty mountain roads sticking to the surface at whatever angle. On the east coast around Sendai I notice a lot more barren land with remnants of past destruction. This is the region hit hardest by the tsunami that followed the 9.1 earthquake back in 2011. Three and a half years later they are still rebuilding the region, putting up new massive seawall defenses. I try to get to the Fukushima nuclear powerplant but it’s not possible to get close. We only managed to get close to powerplant number two which was also hit but survived. When I was there it seemed operational but it looks like it has been decommissioned since 2019.
