When Kawasaki unleashed the Ninja ZX-14 back in 2006 they forever changed the landscape of the American Sportbike scene. Even more revolutionary than the big bike was the manner in which Kawasaki chose to market it. Rather than relying on the traditional racer endorsed advertising backed by knee dragging visuals, Kawasaki put two brand new big bikes into the hands of Robert Fisher of Roaring Toyz and asked Fisher to work his magic.
The marketing minds at Kawasaki knew that in order to capture the interest and imagination of Sportbike enthusiasts they needed to do more than just demonstrate the bike’s performance capabilities; they needed to showcase the motorcycle’s intense aesthetic appeal. In response Fisher created two fully customized Ninja ZX-14s that would take the motorcycle industry by storm, popping up in magazines, blogs and videos from across the world.
So when it came time to introduce the 2012 Ninja ZX-14 to the world the marketing gurus over at Kawasaki knew just who to turn to. “I was incredibly excited when I picked up the phone!” Robert Fisher grins remembering the day he got the call from Kawasaki executives regarding the 2012 launch. “Over the past decade I’ve had an amazing relationship with the folks over at Kawasaki. Together we have worked on a number of exciting custom projects including the most recent custom Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero. But the ZX-14 is close to my heart. It’s an amazing motorcycle that really transformed our industry, and my business, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new model.”Once the 2012 ZX-14 was off the truck and torn down, Fisher got to work integrating a variety of custom parts and accessories designed to accentuate and highlight the bike’s aesthetic and performance qualities. Fisher started by adding four inches of stretch to the big bike’s back end with the addition of a Roaring Toyz 240 CNC billet machined single sided swingarm custom contrast cut to perfectly compliment the Performance Machine Platinum Finish wheels.
“The custom contrast cut swingarm and the matching Performance Machine wheels look stunning on this bike!” Fisher exclaimed. Having spent over a decade designing, engineering, and testing his very own swingarms, Fisher is justifiably proud of this set up. “Like all Roaring Toyz swingarms, this swingarm looks incredible, especially when matched with the PM wheels, but it’s also going to stand up to the toughest riding conditions and that’s what really matters.”
To add a little more juice to the ZX-14′s already impressive performance Fisher added a Brock’s Performance Alien Head full Exhaust System. To ensure the ZX1-4 stops on a dime Fisher included Roaring Toyz own custom gold and black stainless steel brake and clutch lines.
As with all Roaring Toyz custom builds the devil is in the detail and the 2012 ZX-14 showcases a host of custom touches including M43 Powersports chrome plated clear clutch and stator covers, Roaring Toyz billet mirrors and gas cap and Roaring Toyz billet and rubber ‘Hustler’ grips with RSD billet bar ends. Roaring Toyz own billet contrast cut front and rear axle caps, Roaring Toyz contrast cut motor mount caps and contrast cut swingarm pivot caps ensure the contrast cut theme is carefully wound throughout the build, as do the Roaring Toyz billet contrast cut fork caps and contrast cut yoke stem cap.
Roaring Toyz Billet contrast cut lowering links enhance the 2012 ZX-14s aggressive stance while a cutting edge Roaring Toyz billet contrast cut lowering kickstand ensures the new ZX-14 sits sturdily.
This build was incredibly close to Fisher’s heart, so the paint job had to be exceptional. Roaring Toyz go-to painter Ryan Hathaway cloaked the 2012 ZX-14 in candy pagen gold paint with metal flake, highlighted with black accents and real 24 karat gold leaf stripes for a spectacular finish.
The 2012 Ninja ZX-14 was officially unveiled at the Kawasaki 2011 dealer meeting October 10th in Orlando Florida. Robert Fisher was on hand to unveil the bike, chat with dealers and talk to the press. Enthusiasts lucky enough to be attending Biketoberfest this week in Daytona can look forward to seeing this exceptional motorcycle in person, as Roaring Toyz will be live on location with their new rig. Can’t make it out to Daytona?

We started at the front end with a large 23″ Performance Machine Torque wheel with two 13″ matching front brake rotors for increased stopping power fed by stainless steel braided brake lines. We covered up the 120/70/23 front tire with a custom 23″ wrap style front fender with billet fender brackets. To get the bike steering and looking right with the larger 23″ wheel we added raked triple tree clamps. A cool scoop style chin spoiler was also throw in to finish off the nice front end!

Out back we added a larger Performance Machine Platinum Finish Torque 18×10.5 wheel carrying a 300 rear tire. To get the 300 tire into the M109R we had to cut the swingarm and reweld it to accept the larger rear wheel/tire combo. We covered up the new huge section of tire with a complete new rear section. This includes a wrap style rear fender with new subframe rails and frame covers to fit everything nice and snug. The rear suspension travels up and down via an air ride suspension allowing the bike to be parked low for looks. We topped this all off with a custom seat to fit the new rear section that is custom covered with yellow stitching and the BOSS logo embroidered in clear lit up from under by yellow LED lighting. A new LED taillight turn signal combo handles lighting duties and threw a cool curved billet license plate tag mount on the drive hub.
For power and sound duties we added a Custom Shorty Black Exhaust System paired with a Power Commander and Dual Air Intake Kit. This combination makes the Boss M109R sound as good as it looks and moves more air in and out for increased power! Other additions to the Boulevard are clear billet derby cover, billet front axle caps, billet oil fill cap, billet front pegs and a custom LED front turn signal light bar

“Smoother than Barry White and badder than Iron Mike; Roaring Toyz rolls out a blue beast.”
Whoever introduced the notion that life was meant to be experienced in moderation was full of it. Don’t believe us? Have a look at this ‘Busa. This bad dog was built to roll heads, burn tires and drop jaws. Any questions? Take it up with the taillight, because that’s all you’ll see of this force-fed monster if you come a’knocking. “It’s a complete package, that’s for sure, with custom paint, an outside drive stretched swingarm, a turbo kit and plenty of other top-shelf parts,” said Robert Fisher of Roaring Toyz. While the bike could be considered fat-tire perfection, it took a community of gearheads to create it. The first go at building this bike back in 2009 saw a 10-over jackshaft 330 swingarm with Performance Machine wheels and plenty of chrome against the stock paint. Not one to let a big wheel slow his roll, the original owner added low compression turbo pistons in preparation for big boost. And that boost came in the form of a modified Stage 1 Velocity Racing turbo kit that produces a claimed 300 HP at 16 PSI with a small shot of nitrous injected into the plenum to cool the charge. But big power is nothing without control, so an air shifter and an array of gauges joined the roster. Unlike a naturally aspirated bike with coolant temps, speed and RPM, this turbo bike sports air/fuel ratio, boost, air-shifter pressure and N2O bottle pressure gauges to ensure all is well while spooling.

After several years of enjoyment, the previous owner, a soldier, decided to sell the ’Busa to fund another project. At the very same time a friend and fellow soldier named Lorenzo Evans was also in search of a custom crusher. The only catch: He was stuck on tour in Afghanistan. Roaring Toyz drove to Evans’ house and trailered the ’Busa back to HQ, and then the bike was put on the lift. “He gave us a good idea of what he wanted. And after several conversations over the phone and many e-mails, we decided on a new direction,” Fisher said.
The power-sapping jackshaft 330 left the building, as did the PM wheels and the stock paint. In their place a Roaring Toyz O.S.D. 300 landed on the bike along with Forge-Tec Ruckus wheels and tons of custom paint. The blue hue was the point of focus, but it’s contrasted by other shades of blue, plenty of white, a dose of black and enough metalflake to make a bass boat proud. Even the swingarm and wheels are layered with paint.
As if an O.S.D. swingarm, wheel and paint upgrades weren’t enough, Evans demanded more. So Roaring Toyz added a slew of in-house accessories: VooDoo billet rearsets, a custom rear shock and an LED/strobe package. Evans had Lightwerkz modify the OEM headlight to accept another projector beam headlight too. And instead of simple halogen bulbs, both projectors received HID kits for plenty of ice-white light.
After an extensive overhaul, the Roaring Toyz crew crated up the newly built bike and returned it back to Evans’ garage where it will safely wait until his return. We, for one, are excited to hear about Evans’ reaction upon finally seeing it in person. Hats off to a collaborative effort that turned out a custom with jaw-dropping universal appeal.
